Using the principles of oriental medicine, the acupuncturist will examine you by looking, listening, asking questions, and palpating. This allows the acupuncturist to record a full case history. Once an evaluation is made, the acupuncturist may insert very fine acupuncture needles into a number of points on your body. The purpose of the needles is to stimulate acupuncture points; the needles do not inject any substance into the body. Only presterilized disposable needles will be used. In some cases, acupuncture may be accompanied by electrical stimulation or the burning of moxa, a form of heat therapy. Acupuncturists may also use a variety of other techniques to enhance acupuncture treatment.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), acupuncture has been shown to be effective in relieving postoperative pain, nausea during pregnancy, nausea and vomiting resulting from chemotherapy, and dental pain. It can also alleviate anxiety, panic disorders and insomnia, and has very few side-effects.
The acupuncture consumer brochure created by the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions lists many conditions that may respond to acupuncture, including those related to the following:

Are acupuncture needles clean?
I use only sterile, individually packaged, and disposal needles. Used needles are then thrown away in a Sharps container to be disposed by the medical waste company.
How long is the treatment?
An initial visit lasts 90 minutes. The subsequent visit is about 45 minutes.

An increasing number of women are visiting acupuncturists seeking help in correcting the hormonal imbalances (FSH, LH, progesterone, estradiol, prolactin, etc.).
Regular acupuncture therapies can be very helpful in regulating hormonal imbalances, although it should be noted that acupuncture does not directly alter the female hormones. Rather, acupuncture is considered to influence the hormonal regulation centers in the brain and autonomic nervous system (i.e., the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis) and as a result, improvement in hormonal status can occur over time.
Acupuncture should be done on a regular basis throughout your cycle. You can expect a limited effect by receiving acupuncture treatments only around ovulation time. Compared to many of the fertility medications which provide a powerful effect for a short duration, the immediate effect of acupuncture treatment is, in general, very subtle. The cumulative effect from regular acupuncture treatments, however, can produce significant long lasting benefits.
While some people respond to acupuncture quickly, acupuncture certainly does not work overnight. Most patients require a series of ongoing treatments over a few months to a year. The recommended treatment schedule is based on consideration of a variety of factors in each individual. In many cases, I recommend that you start acupuncture treatment at least 2 or 3 months prior to the commencement of the IVF cycle and that you continue for 1 to 2 times a week until the day of the transfer.

Although facial rejuvenation acupuncture can sometimes be referred to as an acupuncture facelift, it is more than a cosmetic procedure. It treats the underlying causes of aging as well as its manifestation in our faces. It is a rejuvenation and revitalization process designed to help the whole body look and feel younger.
For thousands of years, the Chinese have known that beauty comes from the inside. As early as the Song Dynasty (960-1279), acupuncture has been used to rejuvenate the faces of emperors and empresses. The facial rejuvenation acupuncture is based on the principles of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It rebalances the body’s motivating energy called Qi. Specific points are chosen to manipulate the movement of energy in the body according to the individual’s needs. The treatment would specifically affect the face while simultaneously treating the underlying factors that contribute to the aging process.
Here are some of the results you may expect from facial rejuvenation acupuncture:
The course of treatment is between 10-15 sessions. This will be done twice a week for best results. Each individual will respond differently to the treatment depending on their age and lifestyle. The progress of facial rejuvenation usually becomes more noticeable after 6 -7 sessions. Maintenance may be needed once every month.
The effectiveness of acupuncture is due to its ability to balance the body's energy system. A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with facial acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. The effects included: the skin becoming more delicate and fair, improvement of the elasticity of facial muscles and leveling of wrinkles, a rosier complexion, and overall rejuvenation.
